Those Roast Beef Sandwiches

As humans, we tend to associate certain people, places, and things with either good, bad, or insignificant memories and experiences. I am particularly fond of this categorization method. I have been using this categorization method since I could walk.

There is a particular roast beef sandwich I associate with good memories. My grandma loved Arby’s roast beef sandwiches with the horsey sauce. When I was in high school, we would pick them up for lunch during finals week since I was dismissed at noon.

We would always take our sheet of Arby’s coupons that came in the mail, just in case we wanted to stray from our usual order. We did mix it up from time to time. I am also sure we helped keep our local Arby’s in business.

When we would get home, my grandma would get a family size bag of Doritos out of the pantry and add that as the side item to our fast food meal. To this day, I love Arby’s roast beef sandwiches with Doritos on the side. However, unlike my grandma, I prefer the Arby’s sauce over the horsey sauce.

While I have not ordered anything from an Arby’s in almost two years, I still crave their roast beef sandwich with Doritos on the side. Sometimes, I want one of their vanilla shakes too.

Before I go on a tangent over the Arby’s menu, I will stop here and say I am thankful for these small and seemingly, unimportant memories I shared with someone who was a major part of my life.

I also know I am not the only one who has good memories regarding food and loved ones who have passed on. Nonetheless, it is nice to take a moment and reflect on them and perhaps even eat the shared food in their memory.
