God’s Goodness

My thirties are quickly approaching. I will be there in about six months. Like everyone else as they age, I am feeling many different emotions about entering a new decade. If I could sum up my twenties, I would title it, “God’s Goodness.”

While I know I am not the only one, my twenties were not exactly easy. I experienced much brokenness and heartache. There were years when it felt like I would never experience peace or joy again. Things began to change when I made myself let go of all the brokenness and heartache. This statement probably makes no sense. How did I let go of something I did not ask for in the first place? How did I let go of something I did not know I could let go of?

I asked the Lord to take it from me.

Really, that is all I did. Simply put, He took the brokenness and heartache away. I had tried to for so long on my own, but that just made things worse. I started leaning on Jesus. It was like seeing in color for the first time. I could finally stop and catch my breath. This was when I experienced firsthand God’s goodness.

The Lord never meant for us to carry our burdens around. He wants to take them from you if you allow Him to take them. Recently, some Bible verses were given to me and they sum up handing over your burdens to the Lord perfectly:

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29 (NIV), 2011)

God is so faithful. If you are feeling broken or experiencing heartache or carrying around burdens you just cannot carry anymore, your heavenly Father is ready for you to hand them over to Him.

I know as I enter a new decade in the next few months, I will not be doing it alone. I know my heavenly Father will be right there with me, ready for me to lean on Him.
